I’m an outdoorsy kinda gal. Down to the very fiber of my being. Perhaps I was born this way or maybe it began for me as a child, at Grandma’s and Grandpa’s place in the U.P. where, in the summer my brother, sister and I would run in the fields, catch frogs, turtles and grasshoppers along with other unsuspecting creatures, at least once or twice a year. The wildflowers and butterflies were everywhere our eyes looked. I remember taking turns pumping the old well and drinking the cold water from ou…

This past weekend my partner in green and I ventured to the land of petunias, known as Charlevoix. The 78th annual Venetian Festival was the destination of choice for the Party Crew, and boy did it turn out to be an interesting one at that.
The streets were packed with drivers fighting for the last of the available parking spaces, of which I managed to find one only two blocks from the bridge, Malynda on the other hand wasn’t so lucky. So, as I waited on a park bench for Malynda to find a parkin…

The words “Happy Bliss” can be heard everywhere you go in the small village of Bliss. The weekend of Blissfest is a Holiday for the hundreds of devoted participants and attendees who come to celebrate, and with the cooperation of Mother Nature this year the weather allowed for one of the best Blissfests in quite some time.
As my fellow lime green-shirted--friend and I entered the gates the atmosphere around us changed instantly. Laughing filled the air accompanied by the beat of drums and strumm…

I see my face on the table of contents page in The Graphic weekly, telling the public that I will be updating my run as an intern weekly. As you can see I have not done all that great with keeping up with it. I think this is the one area that I've failed as an intern. I'm not even real sure why I have such a problem with blogging. I always have a lot to say about things, but I think it's more everything that goes on with me I don't feel is interesting enough to talk about. But I guess I'll start…

Now that Floyd
Money Mayweather has officially called it quits (again), an earnest pursuit for the pound-for-pound king can begin. And it is not a moment too soon. For all his talent, Mayweather stopped taking tough fights years ago and was more concerned with making it
rain in crowded areas than challenging other top level fighters (ie Antonio Margarito and…

I'm a little upset at the moment after sneaking out of the office a few minutes early to make it to my job at Knot, Just a Bar on time, and being called off for the fourth - maybe fifth time.
I can officially say I am not making nearly as much money as I usually do in the summer as of yet, so I'm hoping that business picks up. Unfortunately with interning I do not have the option to work more hours in the week, which I wish I did because that would solve a lot of my problems. Plus, I enjoy it.
H…

One of my weaknesses is that I’m a rambler.
No that’s not a reference to the fact that I used to be a Boyne City Rambler (haha). But instead, a reference to the fact that I have a hard time getting to the point.
For example, I work for Knot, Just a Bar as a server as well. It was raining the other day so I thought I might call ahead and see if I was going to be called off.
It wasn’t due to my lack of ambition to work, I just didn’t want to drive up there and be sent home with gas prices the way…

I am in a bad mood today. It isn't helped by the fact I have to read and listen to right wing "commentators" today, like Glenn Beck, O'Reilly, Hannity and Rushy. I would love to meet this morons and just spit in their faces. Hey, they act all tough, let's see what they do with an angry, fairly large, man spits in their face. I bet like all bullies they back down and start crying.
Better yet, put me in a cage match with all three of them. No rules. Yeah, that would be fun. Plus it would help me…

I was referred to as “the little intern” the other day by someone who may be four years older than me, maybe.
My response was, “Did you seriously just call me ‘the little intern’?”
It's not just at work, but everywhere I go I am mistaken for a 17 year old. I'm not sure why that is.
Experience wise, I suppose the name makes sense though.
But still, it’s kind of the same way I feel when a young waitress walks up to the table and says, “And what can I get for you hun?”
Not just hun, but sweetie or…

The season is really starting to gear up now. I must admit my start at Alma this year was pathetic. But it was the first game of the season and I am hoping that rust is gone.
I put on a demonstration of the games at the Charlevoix Ren. Fest. last weekend too. While it was only three events, we did three shows for two days, thus giving me two days of nine total events. Yeah, I am a little sore and bruised. It didn't help that on Saturday of the demo we decided to use one of the landscaping boulde…

My JRN 300 teacher at Michigan State University told everyone horror stories about interning.
She talked of students getting fired on their first days, of being thrown into the job without having a clue what to do and about interns who spend their whole summer where their most demanding task is remembering who likes regular and who likes decaf.
All of those situations intimidated me.
So far, my experience has been far from that. Which is probably for the better for everyone, because I'm not sure…

I REALLY want to take the kids to see Horton this weekend ... unfortunately, we're on a strict BUDGET!
So does anybody have a good movie rental idea?

Apparently spring is on its way. I am not holding my breath though because I remember the many times in the past when we got snow in May.
Anyhow, with spring on the way it is time to try and put the house up for sale again. The 50 mile round trip to work and home each day is really starting to annoy me now that gas prices are so high. I have been looking into investing in horses as a way to save money.

Hey everyone, I am back from Washington D.C. and bursting at the seams with many new ideas for The Graphic and The Petoskey News-Review. I had a great time down there and really enjoyed eating dinner Tuesday night at the National Press Club.
